South Africa advances to the semifinals as group winners.


South Africa has reached the semifinals of the Champions Trophy.

With a brilliant partnership between Rassie van der Dussen and Heinrich Klaasen, South Africa defeated a weak England side by 7 wickets, securing their spot in the semifinals as group winners.

At the National Stadium in Karachi, Pakistan, South Africa comfortably chased down the 180-run target in just 29.1 overs, losing only 3 wickets.

Opener Tristan Stubbs was dismissed for a duck, while the other opener, Ryan Rickelton, was out for 27, falling to Jofra Archer’s delivery. At that point, South Africa had scored 47 runs.

Rassie van der Dussen and Heinrich Klaasen then built a match-winning 127-run partnership for the third wicket, setting the foundation for victory. Both players reached half-centuries.

Rassie remained unbeaten with a top score of 72 runs off 87 balls, hitting six fours and three sixes. Heinrich Klaasen contributed 64 runs off 56 balls, smashing 11 boundaries.

For England, Jofra Archer took 2 wickets, while Liam Livingstone claimed 1. Earlier, after winning the toss, England struggled and was bowled out for just 179 runs in 38.2 overs.

England had a poor start, losing 3 wickets for just 37 runs. Marco Jansen struck early, taking all three initial wickets.

Phil Salt was dismissed for 8, Jamie Smith for a duck, and Ben Duckett for 24 runs. No other batsman managed to play a big innings. Joe Root top-scored with 37 runs, while Jofra Archer contributed 25 and Jos Buttler added 21.

In bowling, Marco Jansen took 3 wickets in 9 overs, conceding 39 runs. Wiaan Mulder also claimed 3 wickets, giving away 25 runs in 7.2 overs. Keshav Maharaj picked up 2 wickets.

With this victory, South Africa topped Group B with 5 points. Earlier, their match against Australia was washed out, and they had secured a dominant 107-run win over Afghanistan.

Australia, having accumulated 4 points, advanced to the semifinals as group runners-up. Afghanistan, with 3 points, and England, who failed to secure any points, were eliminated in the group stage.
