India defeats New Zealand to emerge as group winners.


India has become the group winner of the Champions Trophy by defeating New Zealand by 44 runs.

India will now face Australia in the semifinals, while New Zealand will play against South Africa.

In Dubai, chasing a target of 250 runs, New Zealand was bowled out for 205 runs in 45.3 overs.

New Zealand's openers Rachin Ravindra was dismissed for 6 runs, and Will Young for 22 runs. After that, third-order batter Kane Williamson steadied the ship.

However, he did not receive support from the other batters. Daryl Mitchell was out for 17 runs, Tom Latham for 14, Glenn Phillips for 12, and Michael Bracewell for 2. At this point, New Zealand was struggling at 159 for 6 wickets.

Williamson struck a half-century off 77 balls and scored 81 runs before being dismissed by Axar Patel, leaving New Zealand under pressure. Mitchell Santner later contributed 28 runs.

In bowling, Varun Chakravarthy claimed 5 wickets for 42 runs in 10 overs, and Kuldeep Yadav took 2 wickets.

Earlier, New Zealand won the toss and chose to bowl. Batting first, India scored 249 runs, losing 9 wickets in 50 overs.

India had a poor start, losing 3 wickets for just 30 runs. Shubman Gill was dismissed for 2 runs, Rohit Sharma for 15, and Virat Kohli, playing his 300th ODI, was out for 11 runs.

After that, Shreyas Iyer and Axar Patel built a solid partnership of 98 runs for the fourth wicket. Axar was dismissed for 42 runs. Shreyas played a half-century innings, top-scoring with 79 runs. Hardik Pandya added 45 runs, and KL Rahul contributed 23 runs.

In bowling, Matt Henry delivered an excellent performance, taking 5 wickets for 42 runs in 8 overs. However, his brilliant bowling wasn’t enough to lead his team to victory.

With this win, India accumulated 6 points, while New Zealand earned 4 points. Both teams had already secured their spots in the semifinals before this final match.

Earlier in the group stage, India defeated Pakistan and Bangladesh by 6 wickets each. New Zealand had won against Pakistan by 60 runs and Bangladesh by 5 wickets. Both Bangladesh and Pakistan were eliminated from the tournament.

From the other group, Australia and South Africa secured their semifinal spots, while England and Afghanistan failed to progress beyond the group stage.
