South Africa Begins Champions Trophy with a Convincing Victory
Agency – Opener Ryan Rickelton’s century led South Africa to a commanding victory over Afghanistan in their Champions Trophy debut.
In the Group 'B' match, South Africa secured a 107-run win against Afghanistan. Chasing a target of 316 runs, Afghanistan was bowled out for 208 in 43.3 overs.
For Afghanistan, Rahmat Shah was the top scorer with 90 runs off 92 balls, including 9 fours and 1 six. Rashid Khan and Azmatullah Omarzai contributed 18 runs each, while Gulbadin Naib was dismissed for 13.
Among the South African bowlers, Kagiso Rabada claimed 3 wickets, while Wiaan Mulder and Lungi Ngidi took 2 wickets each. Marco Jansen and Keshav Maharaj also chipped in with a wicket apiece.
Earlier, South Africa, opting to bat first after winning the toss at Karachi’s National Cricket Stadium, posted a total of 315/6 in their allotted 50 overs.
