Australia made history by chasing huge target in the ICC tournaments!

 


Australia made a winning start in the Champions Trophy by defeating England with the help of Josh Inglis Century.

Chasing a massive target of 352 runs, Australia successfully reached the total in 47.3 overs, losing 5 wickets along the way. The star of the match was English, who remained unbeaten with a remarkable 120 runs. His innings came off 86 balls, featuring 8 fours and 6 sixes.

English achieved his maiden ODI century in just 77 balls. However, Australia had a shaky start, losing 2 wickets for just 27 runs.

A crucial 95-run partnership for the third wicket between Matthew Short and Marnus Labuschagne stabilized Australia's innings. Opener Short scored 63 runs off 66 balls, hitting 9 fours and a six.

Labuschagne contributed 47 runs off 45 balls with 5 fours before getting dismissed. Soon after, captain Steve Smith was dismissed for just 5 runs.

The match-defining partnership came for the fifth wicket, where English and Alex Carey added 146 valuable runs. Carey played a crucial knock, scoring 69 runs off 63 balls, including 8 fours.

Glenn Maxwell provided a late flourish, remaining unbeaten with a quickfire 32 runs off just 15 balls. Opener Travis Head, however, managed only 5 runs.

For England, Adil Rashid, Mark Wood, Brydon Carse, Liam Livingstone, and Jofra Archer took one wicket each.

Earlier in the match, England was invited to bat first after losing the toss at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. They put up a commanding total of 351/8 in their 50 overs.

England's opener Ben Duckett played a sensational knock, remaining unbeaten on 165 runs. His innings came off 143 balls and included 17 fours and 3 sixes. With this, Duckett set the record for the highest individual score in Champions Trophy history.

Joe Root broke the record previously held by New Zealand’s Nathan Astle in the 2004 Champions Trophy. Astle had scored an unbeaten 145 runs against the USA.

Root played a crucial half-century, scoring 68 runs off 78 balls, including four boundaries. Captain Jos Buttler contributed 23 runs, while Jamie Smith added 15, Liam Livingstone scored 14, and Jofra Archer remained unbeaten on 21. Brydon Carse chipped in with 8 runs.

For Australia, Ben Dwarshuis took three wickets, while Marnus Labuschagne and Adam Zampa claimed two wickets each. Glenn Maxwell secured one wicket. With this victory, Australia now sits in second place after winning their first game, while England remains without any points. South Africa currently leads the group based on net run rate.

In the Champions Trophy, India and Pakistan are set to face off in the UAE on Monday.

The top eight teams from the ODI World Cup held in India two years ago are competing in the tournament. The participating teams are divided into two groups:

  • Group A: Pakistan, India, Bangladesh, and New Zealand.
  • Group B: Australia, Afghanistan, England, and South Africa.
The top two teams from each group will advance to the semifinals. The final is scheduled for March 9 (25th of Falgun).
